ABOUT BAGS OF HOPE
Giving Hope to Children in Foster Care...
Bags of Hope is our annual orphan care project where we provide Duffle bags to children in Foster Care, embroidered with their name and filled with age appropriate comfort items (i.e. Pillow Pets, journals, fleece blankets, etc...) Often times children in foster care store their personal belongings in a trash bag. It is the goal of Bags of Hope to replace these trash bags with Duffle bags.
There is a great need in the state of Indiana. The most current, published numbers for children in state care are:
-18,560 children in Indiana lived apart from their families in out-of-home care in 2018, compared with 11,190 children in 2012.
-1,964 children were legally adopted through a public child welfare agency in Indiana in 2017, an increase of 27.9% from 2016.
-276 children in Indiana aged out of out-of-home care—exited foster care to emancipation—in 2016.
