ABOUT BAGS OF HOPE
Giving Hope to Children in Foster Care...
Bags of Hope is our annual orphan care project where we provide Duffle bags to children in Foster Care, embroidered with their name and filled with age appropriate comfort items (i.e. Pillow Pets, journals, fleece blankets, etc...) Often times children in foster care store their personal belongings in a trash bag. It is the goal of Bags of Hope to replace these trash bags with Duffle bags.
There is a great need in the state of Florida. The most current, published numbers for children in state care are:
-24,404 children in Florida lived apart from their families in out-of-home care in 2018, compared with 19,536 children in 2012.
-963 children in Florida aged out of out-of-home care—exited foster care to emancipation—in 2016.
-3,831 children were legally adopted through a public child welfare agency in Florida in 2017, an increase of 7.2% from 2016.
